NEW ORLEANS, La. – The awards continue to pile up for the Northern State University track and field program, as the women’s team was honored Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team. The Wolves were one of 67 Division II programs across the nation to receive the honor, which goes to teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
The 2010 women’s team posted a total cumulative GPA of 3.46, tied for sixth highest in the nation. That GPA was also tops amongst the seven Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference squads that received recognition.
This year’s award marks the 15th straight year that the women’s track and field program has received the distinction. Both the women’s track and women’s cross country programs have been honored every year since 1996. The men’s cross country program has also garnered five total awards, making a grand total of 35 team awards since 1996.
The recognition comes on the heels of several individual awards, announced late last week. Recent graduate Amanda Madden was named as the USTFCCCA Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, while sophomore Mikayla Barondeau and freshman Yvonne Freeze were tabbed to the All-Academic team as individuals.
Freshman Luke Hauert was also named to the men's All-Academic squad.
