EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northern State University track and field program added three qualifying improvements to the 2010 outdoor season list of accomplishments on Saturday at the Emporia State University Twilight Qualifier. The meet served as the Wolves’ final meet – and final chance at registering qualifying marks – ahead of the NCAA national championships to be held May 27-29.
Senior Amanda Madden, who booked her ticket to the national meet during the first competition of the outdoor campaign, improved her standing in the hammer throw on Saturday. Madden’s mark of 59.26 meters (194 feet, 5 inches) stands as the second-best throw in Division II this season and also goes down as a new school record.
Fellow senior Bill Cameron and junior Calvin McGruder, both provisional qualifiers in previous weeks, improved their standing on the national list with their performances on Saturday. Cameron moved up to 13th in the nation in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 52.64 seconds.
McGruder is now tied for 12th on the national performance list in the long jump after posting a mark of 7.32 meters (24 feet, 0.25 inch). He claimed All-America status in that event during the indoor season.
Sophomore Melodi Boke posted a third provisional mark for the Wolves with her heave of 13.41 meters (44 feet) in the shot put. That mark, however, was not as far as her previous best and school record mark of 14.09 meters, which ranks her 12th in the nation.
The Wolves now await final national meet selections by the NCAA, which will be made this week.
