HAYS, Kan. – Competing in one of two “last chance” meets this week, the Northern State University track and field squads pulled through with several strong marks at the Fort Hays State University Last Chance Qualifier on Thursday. The Wolves finished with one new NCAA provisional qualifying mark from freshman Yvonne Freese and a lifetime PR from junior Jon Evenson.
Freese’s qualifying effort – the first of her career – came in the discus throw. Her mark of 43.07 meters (141 feet, 4 inches) was just over the provisional standard of 43.00 meters and ranks her 31st in the nation.
Evenson came within half a meter of meeting the provisional standard in the men’s javelin. His mark of 58.35 meters (191 feet, 5 inches) marked a lifetime best for the junior. The NCAA provisional standard is 59.00 meters.
The Wolves will be back in action on Saturday at the Emporia State Last Chance meet and looking to improve on Thursday’s performances.
