ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University head volleyball coach Lisa Schriver has announced that four players will join the NSU Wolves’ squad in 2010. Three of the four signed National Letters of Intent during the national signing period, while the fourth joined the Wolves at semester. The group includes Katie Bloom (Carlton, Minn./Carlton HS), Konefesi Vaisigano (Salt Lake City, Utah/West HS/Casper College), Paula Martins (Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Evolucao) and Kaili Aiono (Salt Lake City, Utah/Cottonwood HS/Western Wyoming CC).
Bloom – the younger sister of current NSU player Amber Bloom – is a three-year letter-winner in both volleyball and basketball for the CHS Bulldogs under head coach Barb Soukkala. At 5-foot-8, she will add depth at the setter position for the Wolves.
A 5-foot-9 outside hitter, Vaisigano will join the Wolves after two seasons at Casper College were she earned a pair of all-conference certificates and was named to the Region 9 All-Tournament squad in 2008. She was also a Second Team All-American for the Thunderbirds in 2009 and was named as the team’s Player of the Year last fall, as well. A West High School graduate, Vaisigano earned four letters in both volleyball and basketball and one in track and field. She was named as the MVP of all three teams as a senior.
Martins, a native of Niteroi in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will join the Wolves next fall. The 6-foot middle blocker played club ball with the Niteroi volleyball club, participating in the Parana and Baixada tournaments, as well as the year-long Rio de Janeiro State Tournament.
Aiono joined the Wolves squad in January after spending the 2008 and 2009 seasons at Western Wyoming Community College. A 5-foot-9 middle blocker, Aiono was twice named to the All-Region squad and was a 2009 all-conference pick as well. She earned All-State honors for the CHS Colts in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and was tabbed as the team’s MVP in 2006. Aiono is participating in spring workouts with the team now and will spend her junior and senior seasons with the Wolves.
