ST. PETER, Minn. – Saturday’s wrist injury to junior Jessica DesLauriers came back to sting the Wolves on Sunday as the Northern State University tennis squad dropped a 9-0 decision to Upper Iowa in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.

Without DesLauriers in the line-up, the Wolves were forced to concede the matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

“It was a tough call to pull her out of the line-up because she wanted to play,” said NSU head coach Jessie Daw.  “But we have three matches at home this week and we need her here to play.”

With the last-minute line-up changes, the Wolves re-worked their doubles partners and moved the rest of the squad up in singles.  The team responded admirably, but couldn’t pull out some close victories in the loss.

“Both doubles teams played outstanding,” said Daw of the re-worked line-up.  “We were so close to winning both of those matches.  One of these days – soon – we will get those close matches to turn our way.”

After taking both doubles matches, the Peacocks went into the singles portion of the match up 4-0 and continued to battle through close points to sweep through the singles and take the 9-0 overall victory.

NSU will close out the regular season schedule with three scheduled home matches.  The first of those is set for Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the NSU tennis courts behind Jerde Hall.  The Wolves will be taking on MSU Moorhead in another NSIC contest.  NSU will close out the season with matches on Saturday and Sunday against Minnesota State, Mankato and Augustana, respectively.
