ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Northern State University tennis squad found the going a bit tough this weekend, facing off against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foes St. Cloud State and Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday. The Wolves fell to SCSU by an 8-1 margin and 9-0 to the Mustangs of SMSU.
NSU senior Amanda Lee picked up the Wolves’ lone win against SCSU, claiming a 6-3, 7-6 win over Catherine Bowe. Lee claimed a 7-2 victory in the tiebreaker to seal her victory.
“We played streaky, but definitely got better as the day went on,” said NSU head coach Jessie Daw. “Both opposing teams were solid, and their players were striking the ball better and harder than we do. Particularly at the top of the line-up, this gave us some problems. We spent last week working on some alternative strategies, and although we came up against tough opponents, in many cases we executed these different strategies pretty well. We will continue to work on these, and also work on playing harder hitters.”
The Wolves are off for the next three weeks before taking the courts again for four matches in three days beginning March 9. NSU will take on Bethel Lutheran and Gustavus Adolphus in non-conference match-ups before resuming NSIC play against Winona State and Upper Iowa on Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11.
