Wolves Unveil New Look for 2009
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University football team will look to improve in their second season in the newly reformatted NSIC in 2009, and will do so with a new look.  Head coach Chris Boden and upperclassmen athletes worked to find a distinct Northern State feel on their new uniforms for the upcoming season, and matched a little flash and nostalgia in their formula to get it done.

“It was time for new uniforms and after visiting with some of the players, our goal was to combine an old school NSU look with a new school NSU look.  We wanted to generate excitement and stimulate change.  We checked with several companies and went with PROLOOK Sports out of Orem, Utah,” said Boden.

The changes include a move from the Vegas Gold color opposite the maroon on the pants, jerseys, and helmets that Boden brought with him in 2005 when he took over the reigns of the program, to the standard Northern State gold that has been with the school since its inception.

The team will wear maroon jerseys and pants at home games and white jerseys and maroon bottoms on the road (with talks of purchasing white pants and gold pants in the future).  The jerseys are “Missouri Style” which are modeled after the University of Missouri Tigers.  The numbers feature three tone tackle twill stretch stitching, and the jersey fabric is made out of stretch mesh and pro flex material.  The jerseys run tight on the players to help keep opponents from having an easy time grabbing a hold of them.

Adding to the allure of the new look is the detailed embroidery of Northern State logos found on different parts of the top.  They feature the Northern Wolf-head logo on each sleeve, the word Northern across the front of the jersey, the letters NSU at the base of the neck, a block N on the back of the jersey, and the NCAA patch on the front right shoulder.

The gold block N will make a re-appearance on the new helmets as well.  The helmets will be a return to the all-maroon of years past and facemasks will also be maroon, with the single yellow block N with black outline featured on both sides of the helmet.

“I’m proud of the returning players.  This was their idea and their choice.  They have even helped with fundraising to get this done,” said Boden.

The Wolves will unveil their new look for real on Thursday, August 27th, when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on the Missouri Western State Griffons at 6:00 p.m.
