ABERDEEN, S.D. – This past Sunday, 17 high school boys laced up their cleats and headed off to school in Aberdeen. No not that kind of school.
Those 17 high school boys headed to Northern State University for the fifth installment of head coach Chris Boden’s Quarterback School, which Boden has run every summer since being hired in 2005. The athletes were able to learn the complexities and intricacies of the quarterback position during five practices covering three days time, culminating in a Top Gun competition for all the campers on Tuesday morning.
“Our Quarterback School is designed for the serious high school quarterback. It is designed to teach and work the fundamentals of the position. We get into details about reading coverage’s, executing under duress, and how to carry the fundamentals over into a competitive environment,” said Boden afterwards.
“2009 was the biggest QB School we have had in our 5 years of holding the camp. The kids this year were hard working and made significant improvement in five practices.”
Earning Top Gun honors for the JV-age campers was Evan Finley from Northwestern High School, and taking home the Top Gun honors for the varsity-aged campers was Hayden Handcock from Sully Buttes HS…last year’s JV Top Gun.
