Ashley Gabler
Softball
Ashley Gabler (OF, So., Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margarets HS) led the Wolves with a .357 batting average in six conference games this week.  After struggling in two home games on Wednesday, Gabler bounced back to go 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate for the Wolves in their four-game road trip and racked up a .600 on base percentage.  The sophomore drilled her second home run of the season in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against 24th ranked Minnesota State, Mankato, breaking up the Mavericks’ shut-out bid in the process.


James Paul
Baseball
James Paul (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-8, 165, Paynesville, Minn. / Paynesville HS) led the Wolves batters with a .542 average in their 1-5 week this week.  He went 13-24 with five RBI, two doubles, and four runs scored with a .625 slugging percentage and a .577 on-base percentage (1.202 OPS).  The senior also earned two walks and was a perfect 2-2 on stolen base attempts.

Morris, Minn.
– The Northern State University swim team kept up their pace from last night, in earning two wins at the UM-Morris/Morningside College Double Dual Saturday in Morris, Minn.  The Wolves were victorious over Morningside by a 65-57 margin, and they then defeated UM-Morris for the second-straight day, this time by a 72-59 margin.

“This meet was another test of where we are early in the season.  The performances set us up for good season and top times for many of our athletes which will impact our overall team scoring. We have some hard work ahead and we are exciting to move forward into the season,” explained NSU head coach Elyce Kastigar.

Christine Retzlaff picked up right where she left off the night before, by winning all four events she was in on the day.  She set a new school record and broke the UM-Morris Pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2:37.39, winning by 14 seconds over the second-place finisher.  She also took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.19 and the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:55.85, beating her nearest competition by :22.45.  She was also part of the victorious 200-yard medley team that included Brooke Larson, Sarah Iwerks, and Jordan Robles with a time of 2:02.98.

Retzlaff won every event she was in over the last two days.

Larson also won two individual events apart from the relay win, placing first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.38 and setting a new personal best in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:22.02.

Sarah Iwerks was the other first-place finisher for the Wolves, clocking in at 2:28.00 in the 200-yard butterfly for top honors.

The Wolves are next in the water on November 20th when they take part in a double dual with UM-Morris and Nebraska-Kearney in Aberdeen.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
