ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four Northern State University soccer players were tabbed to various All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams, which were released by league officials on Wednesday. Sophomore Kaylee McDonald (First Team), junior Maggie Fedor (Second Team), and seniors Laura Skog (Third Team) and Summer Swan (Honorable Mention) all earned accolades. All-Conference honorees are nominated and voted on by the head coaches of the 14 teams in the NSIC.
The All-NSIC accolades are the second career honors for both McDonald and Fedor, while Skog and Swan claimed their first career certificates. McDonald was a Second Team selection last season, while Fedor was named as the NSIC Newcomer of the Year and a First Team pick as a freshman in 2007.
All four athletes played integral roles in helping the Wolves to their 12th straight appearance in the NSIC post-season tournament, which begins today.
McDonald, a forward from Ramsey, Minn., earned the First Team nod after leading the Wolves in points with 11. She had three goals and a team-best five assists on the season, while finishing second on the team in both shots (61) and shots on goal (24). Her four assists in conference games also put her in a tie for ninth in the NSIC statistics in that category.
Fedor, a junior midfielder from Monticello, Minn., led the Wolves with five goals on the season, three of which were game-winning scores. Also a 3-time All-Region honoree, Fedor took a team-high 71 shots on the season and is tied for first in the NSIC-games-only statistics for shots (52) and shots per game (4.00). Her three game-winners also tie her for fifth in the league stats.
Fedor also has 28 career goals heading into tonight’s match at Minnesota Duluth, a mark that puts her in fifth place on NSU’s all-time career goals chart. Her 68 career points also put her third all-time on that chart.
Skog has been a key member of NSU’s defensive unit since her freshman campaign, helping the Wolves log nine shutouts during the 2009 season and more than 30 over the course of her career. The senior out of Anoka, Minn., also scored her second career goal on Oct. 25 in a 1-0 shutout over Concordia-St. Paul. That goal was her first score since the 2006 season. Skog also recorded an assist in the regular season finale on Nov. 1 against conference champion Winona State, and now has two goals and four assists in her career.
Swan, a fifth-year senior from Oregon City, Ore., rounds out her career with an Honorable Mention selection after playing nearly every minute of the 2009 season. A center midfielder, Swan has scored two goals and registered an assist and is tied for third on the team with five total points.
