Emily Becken
Women's Basketball
Emily  Becken notched her first double-double of the season with a 17-point, 11-assist effort in the Wolves' 76-65 win over the University of Mary.  Becken was one of four Wolves in double figures in scoring and one of three players to notch a double-double, marking the first time that has happened this season.  NSU has now won four straight games.


Jordan King
Men's Basketball
Jordan King (G, 6-0, 180, Jr., Arlington, S.D./Arlington HS) led an NSU comeback effort against the University of Mary with a career-high 16 points on Saturday despite playing just 17 minutes of the game.  King drained four of eight 3-point attempts, including several late treys to keep the Wolves in contention.  He was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while dishing out five assists and coming up with one of the team’s three steals.

ABERDEEN, S.D.  – Northern State University head swimming coach Elyce Kastigar has announced the signing of local standout Mikaela Waiflein (Aberdeen, S.D.) to a national letter of intent for the 2010-2011 season.  Waiflein commits to the Wolves during the early signing period.

A two-sport athlete at Aberdeen Central High School, Waiflein earned six letters in both cross country and swimming thus far during her prep career.  As a member of the Aberdeen Swim Club, Waiflein earned a first-place finish at the 2009 South Dakota Short-Course State Championships in the mile.  She was also voted Team Captain, Most Improved, and Hardest worker thus far during her time as a member of ASC.

“Mik will bring in many fine qualities that will impact our team in a positive way.  Her leadership skills and strong work ethic are strengths that we welcome to our program.  She will impact our ability to provide depth and scoring in many events, with her biggest impact coming in our distance events where I feel she will further develop this strength.  We are please that she chose to come to Northern and she will be a great asset to our growing program,” said Kastigar of Waiflein.

Out of the pool Waiflein has excelled in acadmics as well, earning Student of the Month honors from Central as well as being on the Honor Roll.  She is also active in Bible Study and in her church.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
