Athletes of the Week
Emily Becken
Women's Basketball
Emily  Becken notched her first double-double of the season with a 17-point, 11-assist effort in the Wolves' 76-65 win over the University of Mary.  Becken was one of four Wolves in double figures in scoring and one of three players to notch a double-double, marking the first time that has happened this season.  NSU has now won four straight games.

Jordan King
Men's Basketball
Jordan King (G, 6-0, 180, Jr., Arlington, S.D./Arlington HS) led an NSU comeback effort against the University of Mary with a career-high 16 points on Saturday despite playing just 17 minutes of the game.  King drained four of eight 3-point attempts, including several late treys to keep the Wolves in contention.  He was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while dishing out five assists and coming up with one of the team’s three steals.

ABERDEEN, S.D. -
The actual fireworks display took place about fifteen minutes prior to the start of the game, but Northern State University sophomore forward Maggie Fedor provided the grand finale Friday evening, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on a third as the NSU Wolves dispatched the visiting Adams State College Grizzlies 3-0 at Clark Swisher Field.

In the team's annual late-night bash, which featured a pre-game fireworks display and a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, the Wolves opened up the season in strong fashion, posting 25 shots while holding the Grizzlies to just eight shots.

Fedor, the reigning Northern Sun Newcomer of the Year, had a game high six shots, all of which were on goal. Sophomore Kirbie Wages and senior Stephanie Connolly also aided the effort, putting up four shots apiece.

Grizzly senior Michelle Reed had three shots to lead the Grizzlies, two of which were on goal.

Fedor wasted little time in putting the Wolves on the board, tallying her first points of the season on a 10-yard shot from Kaylee McDonald just 25:15 into the game.  The sophomore speedster was at it again less than ten minutes later when she sent a cross into the middle for freshman Haley Burns, who connected from 15 yards out.

Down 2-0 at the half, the Grizzlies, who took a 3-2 victory over Wayne State University on Thursday, regrouped in half number two, but were unable to hold Fedor back.

Fedor tallied her second goal of the night at the night with 22:43 showing on the clock, this time taking a cross from Connolly and slipping a shot past ASC goalie Kirsten Dorsey to make it a 3-0 game.

NSU's Catherine Grace and Dannielle Wood combined to complete the shut-out in goal.  Wood made four saves on the night.

NSU will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2, when they face the University North Dakota on the road.  The Grizzlies, who fell to 1-1 with the loss, will remain in Aberdeen to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead on Sunday.
