Ashley Gabler
Softball
Ashley Gabler (OF, So., Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margarets HS) led the Wolves with a .357 batting average in six conference games this week.  After struggling in two home games on Wednesday, Gabler bounced back to go 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate for the Wolves in their four-game road trip and racked up a .600 on base percentage.  The sophomore drilled her second home run of the season in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against 24th ranked Minnesota State, Mankato, breaking up the Mavericks’ shut-out bid in the process.


James Paul
Baseball
James Paul (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-8, 165, Paynesville, Minn. / Paynesville HS) led the Wolves batters with a .542 average in their 1-5 week this week.  He went 13-24 with five RBI, two doubles, and four runs scored with a .625 slugging percentage and a .577 on-base percentage (1.202 OPS).  The senior also earned two walks and was a perfect 2-2 on stolen base attempts.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University men’s basketball coach Paul Sather has announced that NSU alum Matt Sevareid has been hired as the program’s top assistant.  Sevareid, who both finished his playing career and began his coaching career at NSU, recently completed his third season as the head coach at Presentation College.

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State University men's basketball program is gearing up for the start of summer camp season, which kicks off June 7 with the start of the boys and girls day camp sessions. Head coach Paul Sather and his staff, along with members of the 2010-11 squad, will head up the camps.

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State University head men's basketball coach Paul Sather has announced his first wave of signees for the 2010-11 season. The group includes South Dakota native Dustin Tetzlaff, Tom Parks of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Australian import Trent Zomer. The three - along with Aberdeen Central High School product Jared Hannigan, who signed during the early period - will enroll in classes and join the Wolves on the court for the 2010-11 campaign.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the third straight year and the fourth time in the last five years, the Northern State University men's basketball team led the NCAA Division II nation in attendance at home games. Through 15 home contests in the 2009-10 campaign, the Wolves drew a total of 51,207 fans for an average of 3,414 per game.

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State University will hold a press conference today at 11 a.m. to introduce new head men's basketball coach Paul Sather. The press conference will be held in the Centennial Rooms of the NSU Student Union building. Sather and NSU President Dr. James Smith will be on hand to answer questions.

Northern State University senior Mitch Boeck added one more notch to his list of career accomplishments on Thursday when he was tabbed to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team.  The All-NSIC squads were selected by the league’s 14 head coaches prior to last night’s start of the conference tournament.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Wolves came into Saturday’s game needing a win to keep their season alive.  Problem was, the visiting Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs needed a win just as badly.  In a classic game of winner-take-all, it was the SMSU Mustangs who were left standing after Saturday’s pivitol match-up, taking home a 56-51 victory and dashing NSU’s hopes of heading into post-season play.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University officials have dubbed Saturday’s men’s and women’s basketball games against Southwest Minnesota State University “white out” games.  Similar to previous “maroon out” nights, NSU fans are encouraged to wear white attire to the games in support of the Wolves.

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Wolves needed a win.  Junior Marty Gregor made sure they got it.

Gregor, who scored just two points on a pair of free throws late in the game, came up with a loose ball off a Dennis Williamson turnover with just under a minute left and the Wolves leading by five to help preserve Northern State University’s 66-60 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead in a key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball action.
